From the pollen to the formation of the fruit

Pollination is the process by which male gametes reach the female pistils, allowing fertilization to occur.
1️⃣ Pollination can be classified based on the source of pollen:
Autogamy – pollen comes from the same plant,
Allogamy – pollen comes from a different plant.
2️⃣ The pollination process can also be classified based on the agent that transfers pollen:
anemogamy (wind),
hydrogamy (water),
zoogamy (animals), including entomogamy (insects), chiropterogamy (bats), ornithogamy (birds), and others.
🌺 The flower is the most highly developed generative organ. It evolved to facilitate pollination, which is no longer dependent solely on abiotic factors.
🦋 Thanks to their specific structure, diverse colors, the presence of directional markings, nectaries, and scents, plants have paved the way for zoogamy.
💧Pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from the anthers to the stigma of the pistil. The pollen grain then releases a tube that carries two sperm cells to the ovary - one sperm fuses with the egg cell, and the other with the central cell.
🌰 Double fertilization results in an embryo and a nourishing endosperm. The ovule becomes a seed, while the flower parts develop into fruit.
💡 Understanding pollination, including self-pollination and animal-mediated methods, highlights its complexity and the importance of diversity in ecosystems.
